Course Description
- Emergency First Response 1 is a one day practical course for health and care professionals who may need to respond immediately to illness, injury or collapse at work.
- The course includes the required Emergency First Aid at Work content within a clinically informed first response approach. Delegates receive dual certification in Emergency First Response 1 and Emergency First Aid at Work, where the required assessment standard is met.
- One day duration.

Suitability
- This course is suitable for health and care professionals, including doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, care workers, clinical support staff and staff working in GP practices, dental services, pharmacies, care homes, nursing homes, clinics and private healthcare settings.
- It is intended for staff who need a concise, practical emergency response course with recognised workplace first aid certification.

Compliance & Alignment
- This course includes the required content for Emergency First Aid at Work and is designed to support employers with workplace first aid provision under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981. HSE guidance states that employers should provide adequate and appropriate first aid equipment, facilities and personnel, based on workplace need.
- The CPR and AED content is aligned with Resuscitation Council UK guidance for adult basic life support and AED training, including early recognition, calling 999, high quality CPR and early defibrillation.

Delivery & venue
- Training is delivered at the client’s location.
- Maximum 10 learners per tutor.
- The course is delivered using practical skills teaching, scenario based training and structured discussion relevant to the client’s clinical or care environment.

Entry requirements
- No previous first aid certificate is required.
- Learners should be able to take part in practical training, including CPR practice on the floor. Reasonable adjustments can be discussed before the course.

Assessment & Certification
- Learners are assessed throughout the course through practical skills, participation and scenario based assessment and an MCQ.
- Certification is provided electronically.

Tutor standards
Courses are delivered by HCPC registered paramedics with:
- At least ten years in clinical practice
- At least five years in a specialist clinical role.
- A paramedic degree
- A postgraduate qualification
- An approved teaching qualification
- Full membership of the Royal College of Paramedics
