Course Description
- Emergency First Response 3 is an advanced practical course for staff working in health and care settings.
- It develops the skills required to recognise illness and injury, complete a structured assessment and provide effective emergency care. The course includes the full First Aid at Work syllabus, with successful learners receiving both awards.
- 3 day duration.

Suitability
- Suitable for clinical and non-clinical staff, including healthcare professionals, support workers, receptionists, drivers, managers and designated workplace first aiders.
- Training is adapted to the organisation’s patients, staff roles, working environment and identified risks.

Core Content
- Recognition of illness, injury and patient deterioration
- Structured patient assessment
- CPR and use of an AED
- Unconsciousness, choking and seizures
- Anaphylaxis and breathing emergencies
- Heart attack, stroke and diabetic emergencies
- Bleeding, shock, burns and injuries
- Head, spinal, chest and abdominal injuries
- Fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries
- Poisoning and environmental emergencies
- Teamwork, escalation and clinical handover
- Practical scenarios based on the workplace
- Additional content tailored to organisational risks

Compliance & Alignment
- The course includes the full First Aid at Work syllabus and supports compliance with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.
- Resuscitation content is aligned with current Resuscitation Council UK guidance.
- Training and assessment are adapted to the organisation’s services, patients, staff responsibilities and emergency procedures.

Delivery & venue
- Training is delivered at the client’s location.
- Maximum 10 learners per tutor.
- The course is delivered using practical skills teaching, scenario based training and structured discussion relevant to the client’s clinical or care environment.

Entry requirements
- No previous certificate is required.
- Learners should be able to take part in practical training, including CPR practice on the floor. Reasonable adjustments can be discussed before the course.

Assessment & Certification
- Learners are assessed throughout the course through practical skills, participation and scenario based assessment and an MCQ.
- Certification is provided electronically.

Tutor standards
Courses are delivered by HCPC registered paramedics with:
- At least ten years in clinical practice
- At least five years in a specialist clinical role.
- A paramedic degree
- A postgraduate qualification
- An approved teaching qualification
- Full membership of the Royal College of Paramedics
